I give away my work mainly because I enjoy the creative results that people do with them (hence why they are on Deviant Art).

In respect of cash, I never turn down money for a project, though I don't explicitly ask for it most of the time.

I agree with the comment above. As someone who makes a living from photography, what sense is there in giving away thousands of images for free? It devalues your own work, and the work of other photographers.
As for watermarks, I tend to use them depending on where the images are going to be displayed. They can provide invaluable advertising and brand awareness, especially for wedding photographers. You say it involves ego, but if people didn't have faith in their own work, they wouldn't post it online.
Incidentally, when people have offered you money to use your images, what kind of fees are you turning down?

I also dislike watermarks, however, I feel compelled to bring up two points within your post.

1.) you say "[and] ego in the assumption that your work is original and unique" then you go on to say "I have a fairly unique style" - this is your ego, I could not tell your work from the same style I have seen many different places.

2.) One major point you didn't mention or try and justify is how you giving your work away for free devalues the work of photographers. I understand you wanting to be all artsy and just doing it for the art, but it's self-centered to not consider the effect of your actions on others.

I’m so excited about this movie! I hope it’s as good as all the reviewers are saying. Craig has to be one of the best Bonds and I really like Bardem in No Country for Old Men.
